The Illinois State Perfusion Society (ISPS) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the professional interests of Clinical Perfusionists practicing in Illinois. Since the formation of the society in 1995, our largest and most valued means of support has been the Annual Meeting of the ISPS. The meeting has helped perfusionists from all over the country expand their knowledge base and stay up-to-date on new developments within the field of perfusion. In an effort to provide perfusionists attending our meeting with a variety of speakers and a diversity of topics, the ISPS encourages perfusion students to become active participants at the meeting.
In October of 2005 the society established the “John Hill Perfusion Scholarship” (“JHPS”) to recognize the passing of Mr. John A. Hill. Today the scholarship not only honors the innumerable contributions John made during his 40+ year career as a perfusionist, it also provides perfusion students with some incentive to participate in the annual meeting. Funded by the ISPS, this $1000.00 scholarship is presented to a student who provides an outstanding presentation at the meeting.
Perfusion students applying for the “JHPS” in 2009 will be required to present a scientific poster or provide an oral presentation (~30 minutes in length) at the Fourteenth Annual Meeting of the ISPS. Additional requirements include: completing a scholarship application, composing a small personal essay & presenting an abstract of their scientific poster or oral presentation. Please note that students must be in good standing with a perfusion education program recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Additionally, students must not graduate from their program prior to Saturday October 25, 2009.
The deadline for the application package is Friday, October 09, 2009. Perfusion students presenting at the annual meeting will have their registration fees waived. Students, however, are responsible for all transportation surrounding the meeting, as well as accommodations during the meeting.
The Fourteenth Annual Meeting of the ISPS will be held at Oak Brook Hills Marriot in Oak Brook, Illinois from Saturday, October 24, 2009 to Sunday, October 25, 2009. Additional meeting information will be posted to the ISPS website, www.illinoisperfusion.org, as it become available.
