The Illinois State Perfusion Society (ISPS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to
support the professional interests of Licensed Perfusionists practicing in Illinois. Since the formation of our society in 1995, the largest and most valued means of support has been our Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM). The ASM has continually helped perfusionists from Illinois and beyond stay current in the practice of extracorporeal therapies. To provide our audience a diversity of presenters with timely information, the ISPS encourages students and new graduates to become active participants in our ASM.
In October of 2005, the ISPS established the ISPS Scholarship to recognize the passing of Mr. John A. Hill. This scholarship not only honors the innumerable contributions John made during his 40-plus year career as a perfusionist, it also provides students and new graduates incentive to participate in our ASM. Students and new graduates interested in applying for the ISPS Scholarship in 2011 will be asked to provide an oral presentation or scientific poster—relative to extracorporeal therapies—at the ISPS’s 2011 ASM. The student or new graduate with an outstanding presentation for the ISPS Scholarship will be awarded the John A. Hill Award for Excellence and up to $1500.
In October of 2010, Mr. Vince Rizzo, CCP-LP recruited the ISPS to help him bolster a greater interest in pediatric perfusion. With a goal of increasing pediatric perfusion based presentations at our ASM, while simultaneously encouraging entering perfusionists to become more involved in the field of pediatric perfusion, the ISPS is introducing the Hope for Children Scholarship this year. Students and new graduates interested in applying for the Hope for Children Scholarship in 2011 will be asked to provide an oral presentation or scientific poster—relative to pediatric-based extracorporeal therapies—at the ISPS’s 2011 ASM. The student or new graduate with an outstanding presentation for the Hope for Children Scholarship will be awarded the Dr. Michel N. Ilbawi Award for Excellence and up to $1500.
The ISPS’s 2011 ASM is being held at the Hyatt Lodge at McDonald’s Campus in Oak Brook IL from Friday October 7 to Sunday October 9, 2011. Students and new graduates interested in applying for either the ISPS Scholarship or Hope for Children Scholarship in 2011 must submit the following items to the ISPS on/before Friday August 19, 2011: application, personal essay, and oral presentation or scientific poster abstract. Additionally, applicants must be in good standing with their perfusion education program. Up to three applicants for each scholarship will be selected to present at our ASM; selected applicants will each be awarded $250 following their presentation. The applicant with an outstanding presentation for each scholarship will be awarded up to an another $1250; total money awarded to each applicant with an outstanding presentation is between $1000 and $1500. Additionally, all selected applicants who present at our ASM will have their meeting registration and membership dues waived. Finally, travel assistance will be offered to full-time students who are selected to present.
